Yellowstone River

Yellowstone River

Left Thursday morning about 7am and arrived in Paradise Valley around 8pm. The Caddis where coming off the water like crazy about size 14. I got very emotional and excited. I hurried to get the camper trailer set up, fishing license, and then decided I only had about 20min of daylight and still did not have all the fishing gear unpacked. Rather than rush to put my gear together and break something, which would be typical in the excitment. I just walked down to the river and watched the Mother Day Caddis happen in all its glory. There where several fish jumping out of the water and slurping. Some would say this is a sign of great discipline, old age, or just plan lazy.

Steve arrived around 10:30. I was very good to see him. I had a campfire going and plenty of beer so it was easy to begin to catch up. In the morning we where able to coordinate with the guy from Idaho Falls that was dropping Steves brand new drift boat off. He was just 10miles up the road at a local fly shop. Unfortunately all the reports showed the Yellowstone had risen over 1100 CFS that morning and soon the river down stream would be blown out. We fished late morning anyway but visibility was about 6-8in and the water was rising fast. We didnt catch anything and decided to float the lower Madison for our maiden drift boat voyage.

Campsite and a KOA 10 miles upstream of Livingston. This would be a great campsite for the family. Right on the river, playground, bathroom, showers, and a indoor pool. Steve tying up some March Browns and midges.
